With Nx FlexiMist (Aura) you can create a soft hazy glow around light sources and illuminated subjects, adding a distinctive cinematic flair. Aura also diffuses light, gently blurring hard edges and also imparts softness to skin tones minimizing the appearance of wrinkles, resulting in a naturally smooth and visually appealing aesthetic.

Nx Hatching

This Cross-Hatching tool provides a creative way to add artistic, hand-drawn effects to images by simulating various line patterns based on tonal values. The tool is highly customizable with sliders that control the appearance and behavior of the hatching lines.

Nx Hatching is ideal for creating artistic effects, including cross-hatching, pencil-like sketches, or stippling based on image luminance, giving users a powerful way to stylize their visuals with custom hatching patterns.


Nx Halftone

Halftone is a printing technique developed in the 20th century that utilizes dot patterns to form images. In an era when printing methods were constrained, halftone provided a means to achieve the illusion of colors and shades.

This reprographic method simulates continuous-tone imagery by employing dots that vary in size or spacing, creating a gradient-like effect.


Nx CMYK Halftone

Halftone is a printing technique that was used when color printing options were limited. It helps create the look of different colors and shades by using small dots. Today, simulating halftone effects lets us play with retro styles.

In traditional printing with cyan, magenta, yellow, and black (CMYK), halftone was used to make colors look solid. Instead of using one solid color, printers placed tiny dots close together. Each dot was a single, unchanging color: all cyan dots were the same shade, and all magenta dots were identical. But by combining these three colors with black, printers created a wider range of shades.

When you look at these dots from a distance, they seem to mix together and form new colors. By changing the spacing, pattern, and size of the dots, printers could create many different shades using just these four colors.


Nx Stippler

Stippling is an artistic technique used to create texture and shading in drawings or other visual mediums by applying small dots or marks. These dots vary in density to suggest different levels of darkness or lightness, giving the impression of depth, texture, and form. The closer and more numerous the dots, the darker the area appears, while sparse dots create lighter areas. Nx Stippler DCTL emulates this technique.

Stippling is often used to create smooth gradients or textures in black-and-white drawings. The technique allows artists to control the intensity and texture of a shaded area without the use of traditional hatching or cross-hatching techniques.

Nx Kuwahara

The Kuwahara filter is a non-linear smoothing filter used in image processing to reduce noise and enhance details while preserving edges.

The Kuwahara filter is unique because it adapts its smoothing effect based on the local variance of pixel values, resulting in different levels of smoothing for regions with varying texture and detail. This makes it particularly effective for reducing noise while preserving edges and fine details in textured regions of an image.


Nx Scatter

Nx Scatter DCTL creates a scatter effect with a customizable range and falloff strength, allowing for randomized pixel displacements that mimic a scattering pattern.


Nx Clarity

Nx Clarity is a Local Contrast Enhancement DCTL that sharpens the image by enhancing the contrast of fine details without introducing unwanted halos or artifacts typically associated with traditional sharpening techniques.


Nx AnisotropicDiffusion

Anisotropic Diffusion, also called Perona–Malik diffusion, is a technique aiming at reducing image noise without removing significant parts of the image content, typically edges, lines or other details that are important for the interpretation of the image.

This DCTL is used along with the Nx EdgeProcessor DCTL to refine the edges.


Nx MorphologicalFilter

Morphological operators — opening, closing, skeletonization — can be applied through image filtering to grow or shrink image regions, as well as to remove or fill-in image region boundary pixels.  They are typically used for shape-based image processing tasks such as noise removal, shape refinement, and extraction of structural information.

This DCTL is used along with Nx EdgeProcessor DCTL to create varying effects / refining the image.


Nx ErodeDilate

The Erode/Dilate filter is primarily used to thin (erode) or thicken (dilate) features in an image. It operates by applying a Gaussian-based blurring, followed by a selection of either the minimum (erode) or maximum (dilate) pixel value within a neighborhood.

This DCTL is functions similar to Erode/Dilate in Fusion, but as a DCTL this can be accessed from the Color Page in Resolve.


Nx RankFilter

A Rank Filter is an image processing technique used to modify an image based on the relative order of pixel values within a local neighborhood. Rank filters operate on a sliding window (or kernel) that moves across the image, and for each pixel, they replace the pixel’s value with a specific rank (or order) of the pixel values within the window.

This DCTL is functions similar to RankFilter in Fusion, but as a DCTL this can be accessed from the Color Page in Resolve.
